FAQ's
Q: Are KORU® Apples Waxed?
KORU® Apples grown in New Zealand have no wax coating on them. They sometimes have a 'greasy' feeling on the skin, but this is natural and common to the variety.
KORU® Apples grown conventionally in the USA are coated with a wax which is either a shelac or a Carnauba based vegetable wax product.
KORU® Apples grown organically are not waxed.
For information on carnauba wax, have a look at one of these links: What is Carnauba Wax? Carnauba Wax - Wikipedia

Q: I would love to plant a KORU® Apple tree in my yard. Can I purchase one at a retail nursery?
To get you the perfect apple every time, KORU® Apples are only grown commercially in specific regions by carefully selected growers.
KORU® Apples are then picked and packed to specific grade standards.
Unfortunately we do not allow trees to be grown outside of this system.
Therefore, trees are not sold to retail nurseries or for home gardens.

If you are a commercial grower and are interested in growing KORU® Apples, please Contact Us.
Unfortunately, we do not allow trees to be grown outside of this system.
Q: I am committed to not eating pesticides, do you grow KORU® Apples without pesticides?
Firstly thanks for your question. It is a good one.
We do have some organic production, but most KORU® Apples are produced conventionally.
All New Zealand conventional apple production is required to use only approved chemicals at approved rates and within approved time periods. We are also required to meet minimum residue levels. These processes are recorded, audited and cross checked and we deliver a product that has a fraction of the minimum regulatory levels of residue.
The New Zealand apple industry and ourselves are committed to a clean and an ultra- low residue status and the biodiversity in our conventional orchards is demonstrably equivalent to those of Organic Orchards.
In short, we care about the environment and you and we use the best and most modern practices possible to bring you the best possible product we can in every way.
Q: Could we obtain the rights to grow KORU® Apples at our pick-your-own orchard in New York State?
At this time the Intellectual Property owners of KORU® have chosen not to make Plumac c.v. trees available to direct marketers. The reasons are several, but the most salient one is the loss of the quality control necessary to establish a premium brand.
The growers, packers and marketers of KORU® Plumac c.v. are required to meet stringent quality standards in order to market the apples as KORU® Brand Apples. It is imperative that we maintain the highest quality for KORU® Apple as inconsistent quality can diminish consumer satisfaction.
While direct marketers can do a great job in many cases, at this time in the development stage we are adhering to the plan of limited but tightly controlled production and sales in the USA through Coast to Coast Growers Cooperative.
Q: Is KORU® Apple non-GMO?
YES! KORU® Apple is as non-GMO as you can get.
It is a chance seedling that sprouted up in a rose garden in New Zealand and is a natural cross between Fuji and Braeburn.
KORU® Apple variety is a great discovery and has an interesting story. Check it out on our website at https://koruapple.nz/about-koru.
Additionally, New Zealand is GMO free by law.
